GeoCaching Tassie

The Albany Nomads have just got back from a two week break in Tassie where part of our time was spent finding 50 plus geocaches.

The hunt for them had us doing many remote walks and featured walks such as climbing the Hazzard Ranges in the Freycinet National park and down to WineGlass Bay.

Across to Mole Creek in the Great Western Tiers where we completed the Mole Creek GeoCaching Challenge (third team to only completed the complete challenge)

The cache hunts had us hiking down some dense and remote tracks to view some outstanding water falls and creek systems

Flinders Ranges (part 2)

These two photos again were taken in the picturesque Flinders Ranges.

One was taken from a scenic lookout not far from our camp ground where we have gone for a drive to capture some sunset shots over the Wilpena Pound and Rawnsley Bluff,  but the color that was getting cast on the mountain ranges behind us (The Chace Ranges) was just as impressive ..and with the dust from a 4×4 coming up to the lookout adding that bit of extra to the photo.

The second photo was taken whilst finding one of many Geocaches through the Flinders..This one was at the so called  “Great Wall of China”..Im sure a better photo could of been taken during those magic periods of Sunrise and Sunset…but unfortunately you cant be every where at those particular moments…Whilst finding and making a log into the cache  I could hear a noise that had me scratching my head..so I extended the zoom on the camera to its limits…The zoom on the Sony HX100V goes out to 830mm and the anti shake quality of it is terrific…Ive got another shot somewhere of half a dozen goats standing on top rock face cliffs at the very top of the ranges and I was quite surprise of the quality that the photo came out.

The Flinders Ranges..a photographers and cachers dream come true

We have just recently got back from our WA to SA camping and caching holiday…As per previous post I manage to borrow the works new Sony HX100V camera with a sweep panorama feature.

Our trip took us through the Eyre and Yorke Peninsula’s as well as the Flinders Ranges. Whilst the two peninsula’s were great to visit….its our trip through the Flinders Ranges and through Wilpena National Park that was the holidays highlight.. As GeoCachers (Albany Nomads) we picked up a neat 75 extra caches to add to our tally and as photographers we were blessed with fantastic weather and a photo opportunity at every bend in the road.

Below are two photos taken from close to our camp site looking over Rawnsley Bluff and the Flinders Ranges..I promise to add some more in the coming week…If you haven’t been to the Flinders Ranges…JUST SIMPLY DO IT.. you wont regret it….Regards John
